Most artists are proficient in just one artistic style.
Ernest Marcuse, however, was equally gifted using various mediums.
Figure and architectural drawings
Ernest was professionally trained in Berlin Germany as a newspaper artist, industrial/architectural draftsman and advertising. Prime Australiana examples are :
Kyneton: 'Kyneton: Willis Bros Flour Mill 1880 & 'Unloading at Willis Bros' (Victorian Historic Towns)
Fraser Island: 'On the beach' (Queensland Collection)
'Walhalla unchanged' (Victorian Historic Towns)
'Inside Sydney Opera House' (Sydney & NSW)
'Kingoonya Hotel bar' & 'The drinkers' (Pub Nostalgia)
"Westgate Bridge nearing completion' (Melbourne Collection)
Acrylics and mixed mediums
From the 1960s Ernest often skillfully combined various mediums into his artistic creations.
These included pen & ink, tubed acrylics, crayons, textas, pastels and/or combinations.
Just seven stunning examples of Ernest Marcuse mixed mediums :
Ararat Courthouse in 1880'... (Victorian Historic Towns)
'Lyndhurst 1969'...(Outback Australia)
'Iconic trams in Collins Street'...(Melbourne Collection)
'Montsalvat Eltham 'The White barn' & 'The Violinmaker'...(Victorian Historic Towns)
'Westgate bridge from up high'...(Melbourne Collection)
'The Billabong'...(Regional and Rural)
Water Colour Paintings
Until the 1950s Ernest's landscapes were mostly in watercolour.
Using this washed technique he captured the subject's surreal beauty and shadowing.
In later years, in lieu, he generally used other or a combination of mediums
Some of Ernest's many outstanding examples of watercolours are :
Cradle Mountain ...' Enchanted walk' (Tasmanian Collection)
Bright... 'Autumn entry 1949' (Victorian Historic Towns)
'Murray River Serenity'... ( Regional and Rural Victoria)
'Charlotte Pass'... (Sydney & NSW)
'Adelaide Hills 1943'... (South Australia SE & Adelaide Hills 1943)
'Port Phillip Bay yachts'...(Nautical Themes)
